Using Garden Brick Lights
Although it might seem obvious, its worth stating that brick lights are designed to replace, well, bricks! Just like house bricks, brick lights come in a range of standard sizes, so that whatever size brick has been used to build your wall, there will be a brick light to fit.
Many people are a little unsure about brick lights and where and why they should be used. To be honest, just as with any other garden lighting, brick can be used wherever and however you want to, always ensuring that you take the necessary safety precautions of course.
The ‘real’ purpose of brick lights is to delineate pathways and other routes through or into your garden, as well as to illuminate hazards such as changes of level, garden steps, or uneven paving. Nevertheless, there is absolutely nothing to prevent you from using brick lights as accent lighting in your overall garden lighting scheme.
Don’t forget – all light throws shadows, shadows create decorative lighting effects. If you want to use brick lights for decorative purposes, consider choosing LED brick lights, which give you the added benefit of coloured light.
If you are putting brick lights at around about eye level, you’re better off going for one of the louvre front varieties, which will angle the light to avoid glare. If you have steps that need illuminating, you could also consider step lights, which are designed to eliminate the hazards of wonky, slippery garden steps by illuminating each step in a single flight.
Don’t just think about the practical uses of garden brick lights but think outside of the box too – some folk, for example, even use them as part of their bathroom lighting schemes!
