Why Garden Lamp Posts Make Excellent Garden Lighting

For the majority of folk, the thought of adding a garden lamppost to their outside space never really crosses their mind – lampposts are for streets, not for gardens. Wrong! Advancing technology and the discovery of new materials have brought garden lampposts in from the cold.

But, you may be asking yourself, what’s the big deal, why would I want a ruddy great lamppost in my garden? To answer those questions, we need to eliminate a few misconceptions.

First – lampposts don’t necessarily have to be as tall as the average street lamppost – in fact, usually they are a tad shorter. In some instances, in fact, they are very much shorter. The description ‘lamppost’ simply applies to a lamp atop a post; the height of that post can vary.

Secondly, even if you choose a tall lamppost, it won’t be too heavy to manoeuvre. Garden lampposts are constructed from a variety of materials that are light enough to render them practical but heavy enough to stay where you put them. We’re talking here about fibreglass, copper, aluminium, and similar materials.

Third, you won’t need the total energy of the national grid to run them!

There are distinct benefits to having your very own lamppost too. Number one, perhaps, is the fact that they look good. However, there are practical advantages too, particularly when it comes to your home security.

As security lighting, lampposts are pretty good; put yourself in the shoes of a wannabe burglar – would you choose to break into the house where there’s a lamppost lighting the grounds, or the house shrouded in darkness?

And, if you like to entertain in your outside space, a lamppost provides exactly the right ambience for an alfresco meal, a glass of wine with friends, or a little canoodling with someone special.
