PIR Security Lights: The most advanced security light option
All living bodies emit heat and PIR security lights work by detecting the heat from living bodies as they approach. The passive infra-red sensor, which is usually integrated into the base unit, will switch the lights on when motion is detected in the zone area.
We all know that waving trees and passing cats can cause these lights to be triggered, but that is small price to pay when you take into consideration the peace of mind and security that PIR garden lights bring. These accidental triggers are more likely to happen during the winter month, when the temperature difference between the passing object and the air temperature is large. Conversely, when the air temperature rises above 30°C, and is closer to that of the human body, the sensor is slower to react simply, it has to work harder to detect the difference between object and the surrounding air.
We ask a lot of our garden lights, expecting them to provide us with a spectacular vista when darkness falls, light the patio for al fresco meals, and improve our home security. PIR lights can do all of these things but, in terms of home and garden security, they really are the most advanced option.
