Bathroom Ceiling Lights: at the heart of your bathroom lighting scheme
Bathroom lighting has moved on from the days of a lone pendant lamp swinging balefully from the centre of the bathroom ceiling; just like you, bathroom ceiling lights have undergone something of a transformation. The way you use your bathroom has moved on; like other rooms in your home and, indeed, like you, bathrooms now have to multi-task. In the morning, the bathroom is purely a space where you shave or put on your makeup as quickly and as efficiently as possible, preferably aided by bathroom mirror lighting.
At other times, however, you expect your bathroom to be softly lit, welcoming and calm. Additionally, you’ve probably spent a fortune on tiles and glass, and debated for hours over those fixtures and fittings; to properly enjoy your final choices, you need to illuminate them properly.
Bathroom ceiling lights come in various forms, from brass and gold effect flush fittings, through gold plated spotlights, to inconspicuous downlights. As with all electrical equipment in the bathroom, bathroom lights should comply with the IEE’s bathroom lighting zone regulations. Recessed halogen downlighters should also carry the BS476 Kitemark.
There are some issues to take into consideration when you’re making your decision about lighting:
- Because fluorescent tubes contain a small amount of mercury, there are some disposal issues
- Halogen lamps run hot and, unless you choose a low voltage option, they can be expensive in use
- GU10 bulbs, which are a low energy alternative to halogen bulbs, are bigger than standard halogen bulbs. This means that, if used to replace a standard halogen bulb, the GU10 bulb will extend from the end of the light fitting
Turn your bathroom into a sanctuary with the correct choice of bathroom ceiling lights.
