Marine Aquarium Lamps: Essential for healthy marine plants and animals
Most fish kept in marine aquariums are from light abundant warm, shallow seas, and standard aquarium lighting is perfectly adequate. However, some of the creatures you keep in a marine aquarium will need some extra thought given to their lighting requirements.
Even though the seas that are home to these creatures receive abundant, full spectrum light, the creatures may not. It all depends on where they live within that light abundant ocean. Marine creatures from mangroves, for example, will be adapted to murky, silt and debris-filled water; on the other hand, reefs come from seas that are crystal clear and idyllic
If you have one or two corals in your tank, or if you have spent a fortune on a reef system, you will need almost full spectrum light nothing below 10,000K will do, and you might need a Kelvin rating higher than that. Metal halide lamps are the choice of serious marine aquarists but fluorescent tubes will do the job as well. If you decide to go with fluorescent tubes, make sure that you choose lamps that are marked as VHO or very high output. Some expert aquarists choose to combine both fluorescent and metal halide lamps.
We don’t just sell ‘lighting’ here at Ace Lighting, we actually know about it as well. The result of this can be seen in our range of marine aquarium lighting and that should be your next port of call.
