This may seem to be a very
general category for interior
lighting. But the truth is there
are specific areas under the
broad category of ceiling
lights that will help you
choose fixtures.
You will be
able to choose fittings in the
modern style,
contemporary
style or, for many homes, the
traditional
style. With any of
these options you should aim
for consistency in
appearance.
Ceiling lights can be
flush with
the surface, suspended or
installed as a downlight
(recessed bulb but with a
frame of fixture outside the
ceiling surface). Some
downlight styles use cube-
shaped fixtures that can direct
light to specific areas. Other
homeowners choose the
pendant style,
making the
fixture a key part of the
room's design.
As with many
sub-categories, pendant and
suspended lighting units come
in a wide range of styles.
For example, you may select
a single pendant in the
traditional style or in the
modern style. Some room
designs call for the modern
look of
LED lights. If
suspended or pendant ceiling
lights won't work for you
because of ceiling height, you
have excellent choices in flush
lights. These are designed for
both the modern room and
the traditional
room.
Manufacturers also offer a
happy medium for ceiling
lights, something between the
flush light and the suspended
fixture. These semi-flush
fittings may also be a key
design feature, especially if
you make the right choice
from a variety of
contemporary and modern
styles.
