Can I Make The Drop On My Pendant Light Shorter?

Yes, your electrician can shorten the power cable and any suspension cables that are used for your selected pendant light.

Can I Make The Drop On My Pendant Lights Longer ?

Our range of pendant lights are supplied with long suspension cables that suit most purposes. It is possible for your electrician to remove the existing suspension and power cables on the pendant light and replace with new cabling. If you are not sure about any of the pendant lights in our range please email our sales team to confirm details.

Can I Use Low Energy Lamps In My Pendant Light?

Any of our pendant lights that use standard (ES) Edison screw, (SBC) small Edison screw or (BC) bayonet cap light bulbs can be replaced with low energy light bulbs. Some of our pendant light fittings use halogen capsule lamps, at this time there is no energy saver equivalent available but in the near future we are expecting an LED replacement to be available which will hugely reduce energy costs for these types of pendant light fittings.

Can I Dim My Pendant Lights?

Yes, any of the pendant lights in our range can be dimmed on a standard dimmer switch, although you should be aware that any pendant light that has an energy saver light bulb fitted cannot at this point in time be dimmed.

Dining Tables: Pendant lights can be very effective over dining tables, a single light is popular on a round table, a tip when buying a pendant light that is to be situated above a dining table is to make sure that the overall size of the pendant light is in keeping with the size of the table a small pendant light over a large table will look out of place.

If you have a longer rectangular table then a number of pendant lights along the length can be a very effective both as a decorative feature and light source.

Coffee tables: Pendant lights over a coffee table are effective, a pendant light that has a very focused downward beam of light can illuminate an ornament on the table or just enhance the table itself. If you do intend to use pendant lights over a coffee table it is a good idea to consult your electrician first to make sure the cabling can be extended on the pendant light to the required length.

Kitchen Islands: Pendant lighting over a kitchen island or breakfast bar can add a real sparkle to the area. Longer breakfast bars or islands look good with three or four pendant lights in a line that have a focused downward light output. If you have a square kitchen island a single pendant light or cluster of pendant lights at different heights can be very effective.

Restaurants and Bars: Pendant lights are becoming very popular in restaurants be it the single pendant light above each table in a restaurant creating a romantic feel or a line of pendant lights along a bar. If you are wishing to create an ambiance then select pendant lights that just focus the light downwards on the surface below, this will bounce the light. If you want much higher levels of illumination from the pendant lights you choose then go for something that has an opaque shade this will spread the light around more.

Hallways: Hallways can benefit from the use of pendant lights. Do you have a hallway with stairs that curve around creating a high ceiling in the centre? If you do then pendant lights hung in this central space not only give illumination but can become a central focus point for the hallway.

How High Should I Fit My Pendant Light Above The Surface I Am Looking To Iilluminate?

As a general rule you need to be positioning pendant lights 26” to 36” above the surface, this will give the best effect if you are fitting the pendants over a kitchen island or dining table. For lights in other areas it just a case of making sure that no one will knock into the pendant lights as they are walking past.

Does My Ceiling Need Strengthening To Be Able To Add A Pendant light?

If you are fitting the pendant light where it can be screwed into a joist or solid surface then no the joist will be strong enough to take the weight. If you are intending to put the pendants where they will be screwed into plasterboard then we would recommend that you mount a length of wood behind the plasterboard between the joists, you can then screw the pendant light to this wood through the plasterboard the weight of the pendant light is then distributed across the joists.

Can I Fit Pendant Lights Myself?

Yes you can but we always recommend that the wiring and final connections of your pendant lights is carried out by an NIC registered electrician.

How Many Pendant Lights Do I Need?

One of the most popular questions we are asked. It is a difficult one to answer as it is down to personal choice but here are some tips to help with this decision. If you are fitting the pendant lights in a row above a Kitchen Island or bar area then a good measure is to put the pendant lights about 14” apart. If you have a square kitchen island then think about perhaps a cluster of pendant lights that are mounted at different heights this will give extra interest to the pendant light installation.
