Table lamps, like
plants and vases of flowers
can add decoration to a room.
And a lamp is not only
decorative but functional too,
whether in the living room or
the bedroom.
There is so much choice you
will need to be armed with
some information before you
make a purchase. First if all
the table lamp will need to fit
where you set it. The base
has to be able to sit safely on
the surface and the shade
shouldn’t knock against
furniture, chair or settee
arms, mantle shelves,
radiators or window sills. Be
aware that a tall lamp could
be knocked over more easily
than a shorter one if people
stretch past it or over it to
reach something nearby. So,
take some measurements
with the maximum dimensions
your table lamp could take for
the intended position you
have planned. That way
anything smaller is sure to
fit.
Also, make sure that you
have access to the lamp’s on
and off switch without having
to squirm past the shade or
the base to reach it. This is
especially important for table
lamps used in the bedroom as
it could inadvertently present
a fire hazard if it toppled over
whilst you were sleeping and
it was still turned
on.

tradition al or contemporary.
They can be used to create a
