Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQ)
Can I Use Low Energy
Lamps In My Bollard Lights?
Yes the majority of our range
can use energy saver lamps
this excludes the bollard lights
in our range that use
LED's as they
are already energy savers.
The table below show what
the low energy equivalent
lamps would be compared to

How Do I Fix My Bollard
Lights To The Ground?
Our range of bollard lights all
have a plate on the bottom
that has pre-drilled holes. You
can fit the bollard on decking,
driveway or specific points
around the garden. Fitting the
bollard lights into decking is a
fairly simple job of just bolting
down
through into the decking to fix
and then feeding the cable in
from below.
Fitting the bollard lights
around the garden or along a
driveway will require a
concrete base to be added
with the cabling
coming up from below so that
it can be fed into the
connector at the bottom of the
bollard. You will then need to
bolt the
bollard down onto the
concrete base.
Can I Use Bollard Light
For Both Commercial And
Domestic Applications?
Yes, all of our bollard lights
are suitable for both
commercial and domestic
applications. The
YG-9101 &
YG-9100 are
popular for commercial
applications where there is a
high footfall as they are
designed to be vandal
resistant.
Do My Bollard Lights
Need Any Maintenance?
The stainless steel bollards we
supply do require some
occasional maintenance to
ensure the stainless steel
remains bright.
There are two ways of doing
this, you can either give the
bollards an occasional rub
over with cooking oil or
similar oil,
this will ensure that that there
is a barrier between the
elements and the stainless
steel. If you have a number
of bollards
we would recommend that
before installation you give
the bollards a paint with clear
yacht varnish this will give the
stainless steel a hard shell
that water will not be able to
penetrate. It is advisable in
most cases that you pay
particular
attention to the fixing screws
and bolts to make sure no
water can gather in these
areas and cause those
horrible brown rust
runs.
The rest of the range require
no maintenance apart from
changing the odd lamp and
ensuring that the lamp cover
still seals as
it should.
Can I Install Bollard
Lights Myself?
Yes you can. The installation
of the bollard light can be
carried out by you but we
always recommend that an
NIC registered
electrician carries out any
electrical connections and test
the system before connecting
to the mains
supply.
Do Bollard Lights Come
In Different Heights?
Yes. Our range of bollard
lights goes from 50cm
(Frankfurt bollard light)
to 1.1 metres
(Aalborg bollard light)
. This gives a range
that can be suitable for most
applications. Something to
think
about before buying bollard
lights is where are they going
to be installed and what effect
do you want to create. For
example
a mistake that is often made
is bollard lights along a
driveway, are the bollard
lights you want to buy going
to be at eye
level for a driver causing
them to be blinded by the
glare, if so buy a slightly
shorter bollard light or
something that has
a shade on top to angle the
light away.
Do You Supply Any 12
Volt Bollard Lights?
No. All of our bollard lights
require a mains connection.
We recommend that
armoured cable is used to
ensure a safe
installation. All electrical
connections should be carried
out by an NIC registered
electrician.
Do You Supply Solar
Powered Bollard Lights?
No. None of the bollard lights
in our range are solar
powered.
Can I Plug Bollard Lights
Into A Mains Socket?
If you are installing lighting on
a decking area or close to the
house your electrician could
wire individual bollard lights
with a plug socket on the end,
please consult an NIC
registered electrician before
going ahead with this type of
installation.
We do have some bollard
lights that are specifically
designed to be plugged into a
mains socket and can be
moved around to
put the light exactly where
you require it. They are called
the
Lucca 450 &
Lucca
453.
How Far Apart Should I
Put Bollard Lights?
There is now hard an fast rule
on bollard light installation it
really comes down to
personal choice when
planning a bollard light
design. If you are putting
them along a pathway 2-3
metres is a good spread
distance. One point to
consider is if you
have them either side of a
pathway try to stagger the
lights along to avoid a parallel
run that may look like aircraft
landing lights!
If you haven't
considered
using Bollard lights in your
outdoor lighting plan you may
be missing the opportunity to
make a perfect statement.
Many homeowners want to
create a traditional, park-like
atmosphere with post lanterns
and classic fixtures while
others choose Bollard
contemporary lights for the
garden or patio area. This
type of light may also be the
right choice for a driveway or
walkway on your
property.
Bollard lights are smaller than
many traditional light fixtures
yet they provide excellent
illumination in just about
every location. If your
property has space limitations
this type of fixture can be the
perfect choice. For example,
Bollard lighting is available in
stainless steel
or
black finish
for great appearance and is
available in lengths under 100
centimeters. This combination
provides unobtrusive light
with the appearance you
desire.
Bollard lights are available in
a
contemporary
style for the
modern home and garden, or
in the
classic style for
the
lamp post effect without the
height.
You may also
select
the level of illumination, with
lamps ranging from as low as
eight watts to lighting with 100
watts. Your choices should
depend on the overall
property design, landscaping
and desired atmosphere.
If Bollard lights are placed
according to plan they will
provide excellent illumination
without drawing attention to
the fixtures. The smaller size
allows you to draw attention
to other features in the
garden, for example.
However, if you want the
fixture to be a noticeable part
of the design you may opt for
more
ornate bollard
lights.
Use this type of lighting to add
just the right touch to your
home. |
